Studio Zain Masud is a landscape design practice based in Dubai making immersive and contextually sensitive gardens for humans and nonhumans. With an emphasis on native and desert species, sustainable and water conscious approaches, our gardens are defined by a wildness and summon wildlife to share our spaces.
Led by Zain, the studio’s work plays with plants to bring year-round structure, texture and character to a garden— generous, expressive planting capturing light, cadence and currents of breeze. Making visible elements of time and atmosphere, celebrating layers of shadow as they shift and dance across a day.
Zain is focused on the atmosphere and poetry of a garden. Its impact on those who visit it, live with it, and the interiors that look out to it. She works closely with, and to enhance, the architecture and contexts her gardens respond to.
Zain’s practice is informed by degrees in Art History and a fifteen-year career in the art world. She approaches plants as living works of art and gardens as ever-evolving exhibitions with the capacity to touch, transport and enrich peoples’ lives. To invite meditation on beauty, place and environment; our connection to these and responsibility to nature.
